The magic of a Witch Ball is to ward off evil spirits, witch's spells, and ill fortune by capturing them in the hollow interior. As the spirit is mesmerized by the ball's color and reflection, it enters the ball and is caught by it's weblike inside.
Our glass Witch Balls are made from recycled glass in the Carpathian Mountains; the land of superstition, old world mystery and storybook folklore. As the ball is molten hot, the glass is formed, the ball is rolled into colored glass granules to provide the design. This Praline™ Witch Ball first starts out as clear recycled glass. As the ball is formed from molten glass it is rolled in an opaque tan and creme colored glass granule that provides the design. The glass is then blown and popped to create the strands of glass that run in the interior of the ball.
The color covers around 40% to 60% of the ball so that the interior of the ball can be seen. Since each witch ball is handcrafted, no two are alike. Witch balls are free blown and have a tendency to be irregular in shape. The size is close to a grapefruit and can range between 5 and 6 inches in diameter. Our witch balls are sealed and can be used as pond floats.
